Flags for Heroes
Ronald G. Piotrowski (1934 – 2008), proudly served in the US Army from 1955 – 1963. He was in the “L” Company 28th Infantry Regular Army. He was then assigned to the 8th Reconnaissance Company in Camp Carson, Colorado (now known as Fort Carson).
In 1957, Ron received orders to report to a base in Germany where he was stationed from 1957 – 1960 where he earned the rank of Sergeant.
After serving in the military, Ron devoted many years to the youth and residents of New Berlin. He volunteered many years serving as a leader and Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America. Along with his son David, he helped organize the New Berlin Police Explorer Post 81 where he was an advisor. He also served as a Commissioner on the New Berlin Landmarks Commission. In addition, he was an advisor for Junior Achievement.
Ron was always very patriotic and flew “Old Glory” every day and always made sure a light shone on her. The family continues the traditions of flying the flag every day and celebrating the 4th of July!

SSG David Michael Piotrowski (1957-1994), served honorably from 1975 - 1994 as part of the US Army Military Police Corps. His last post was at Fort Carson in Colorado with the 759th Military Police Battalion 4th Military Police Company.
David grew up in New Berlin attending Holy Apostles and Eisenhower High School. He was involved in the Boy Scouts and in 1970, he attained the highest rank in Scouting-the Eagle Scout Award as part of troop 41 of Prospect Hill. In 1971, he received the Award of Merit from the New Berlin Historical Society for his work of clearing and cleaning debris from the First Freewill Baptist Church which is part of Historical Park. Along with his father Ron, he helped organize the New Berlin Police Explorer Post 81 where he was a participant and Ron was an advisor.
In 1991 David participated in the New Berlin Fourth of July parade as Grand Marshall along with other returning veterans when New Berlin Saluted Desert Storm Men and Women in that year’s parade.
He is now resting in peace at Wood National Cemetery.
